5 elements meditation
📝 Description
Using the elements to cultivate calmness and connection.
The Nature meditations are Hazrat Inayat Khan’s poetical sayings in which the whole range of human emotion is experienced through trees, flowers, fire, water, animals, sky, and other elements of the natural world. This pocket-sized book also includes Inayat Khan’s instructions for using the phrases in meditation and prayer, as well as the esoteric use of colours and flowers in healing.
👣 Steps
Step 1 – Preparing (2’)
In connecting to the elements, it is prescribed that this cycle of breaths be done every morning, if possible outside or in front of an open window. Stand upright in a comfortable position, feet slightly apart, hands at your side, palms forward.
Step 2 – Earth breath (1’)
Breathe in deeply through the nose and out through the nose (at least 5 times or up to a minute), visualising the colour gold.
Step 3 – Water breath (1’)
Breathe in deeply through the nose and out through the mouth (at least 5 times or up to a minute), visualising the colour green.
Step 4 – Fire breath (1’)
Breathe in deeply through the mouth and out through the nose (at least 5 times or up to a minute), visualising the colour red.
Step 5 – Air breath (1’)
Breathe in deeply through the mouth and out through the mouth (at least 5 times or up to a minute), visualising the colour blue.
Step 6 – Aether breath (1’)
Breathe in deeply through the nose and out through the nose, very refined (at least 5 times or up to a minute), visualising the colour grey, or imaging transparency.
Step 7 – Integrating (3’)
When you are ready, return to your natural breath, feeling in yourself the balance and integration of earth, water, fire, and air. Recognise your embodiment as a microcosm of the cosmos in which all is contained.
