Guidance from within
📝 Description
Three yogic questions to find guidance from within.
In the busyness of everyday life, even if your work is socially driven, you may lose track of your purpose and meaning. The following practice is a good one to come back to time and time again because it helps you re-centre yourself around your inner drive and find meaning in your endeavours. We encourage you to try this recipe after you have established a regular and solid mindfulness meditation practice.
👣 Steps
Step 1 – Set up
Sit in a comfortable position, keeping your back straight yet relaxed. Relax your shoulders, increasing the space between your shoulders and your neck. Keep a gentle smile on your face and close your eyes. Take a few moments to sit quietly and focus on your breath.
Step 2 – First question
Once you feel that you are as fully present as possible, ask yourself: “What do I most yearn to do in this life?” Let this question drop deeper inside you and when an answer emerges, write it down in your notebook.
Step 3 – Repeat the question
Take a deep breath and ask yourself the same question again. Repeat this process until you run out of answers. At that point, try to ask the question ten more times. These repetitions enable you to find answers that are beyond your ego and really tap into your purpose.
Step 4 – Second question
Ask yourself a second question: “What do I know to be true?” and repeat the same process as in step 3.
Step 5 – Third question
Ask yourself one last question: “What do I need or need to do next?” and repeat the same process as in step 3.
Step 6 – Reflect
When you are done, look at what you wrote down in your journal and see if something emerges that captures your attention. Is there a way for you to pursue meaningful work that is aligned with your inner sense of purpose?
